Coronavirus and hospital waiting lists

If you are waiting for surgery at either North Bristol Trust or United Hospitals Bristol, you may find the attached leaflet helpful.

Waiting for your hospital care | NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire CCG (

Capacity within the Trusts for routine surgery has been reduced owing to the number of patients in beds being treated for Coronavirus and other non-surgical conditions.  The Trusts will prioritise patients for surgery according to their clinical need and where possible carry out operations within three months.  Non-urgent surgery where possible will be carried out within 12 months.

It is really important to keep well whilst waiting for your surgery - the leaflet gives some good advice about looking after your physical and mental health.

The PALS service at the trusts offers support and advice for patients.  Telephone numbers are listed in the leaflet.

Have you had Coronavirus?  NHS Blood and Transplant are asking for your support

If you male aged 18-69 and have recovered from Coronavirus, can you help the NHS by giving blood plasma??  North Bristol Trust are leading a programme to collect blood plasma from people who've had coronavirus.  This plasma is being used clinical research aimed at improving the recovery of people with coronavirus.

Emerging evidence suggests that early use of plasma can be effective when treating those most vulnerable such as the elderly or those with weakened immune systems who do not respond well to vaccines.

This includes more than a million people with blood cancers, organ transplants, chronic diseases and more.

This is because antibodies in plasma stop the virus, they don’t treat the damage it has already done.

NHS Blood and Transplant  continue to collect plasma for use in future trials and treatments, so that there is a supply ready when it’s needed.
